Holy cow! An “elimination” diet based on meat consumption
Here at the vegan swamp we like to be fair and balanced (thanks Bill) and report the good with the bad with news and commentary about vegans and veganism. So, when I saw this image posted on FB in a vegan humor group, I decided to investigate. It had to be a joke, right?
One might expect such a statistic from a bunch of meatheads at a website calling themselves the Carnivore Cure. I was very curious and eager to sink their ship. I felt confident that with just a bit of research I could de-bunk it, offering up better news from a less biased viewpoint. Say it ain’t so, Joe!
Turns out it’s not just a meat industry marketing ploy, according to the Huffington Post, in a survey of around 11,000 Americans, the organization found that 84 percent of vegetarians and vegans return to eating meat. Most lapse within a year, while nearly a third don’t last more than three months. Is a survey of only 11,000 Americans enough? Were those surveyed former vegans, current vegans, or current meatheads? Are a mere 4% of us vegan? Did Oprah say it?
This is really depressing news if it is to be believed!
Why vegans quit plant-based eating to go back to meat consumption is mainly because of health issues, according to Psychology Today but some became vegan or vegetarian just so they could be different. Maybe that 84% figure is made up of 80% who wanted to be different, never committing fully to plant-based eating. A vegan who gets the whole picture, never goes back!

How do the meatheads get around the facts, the damage to our planet made by animal agriculture? What about the cruelty to the animals, all that cholesterol to the body, harmful, cancer causing chemicals, etc. Is Jordon Peterson, the nut that hates vegans, right after all with all his nonsense about the meat-only diet being the cure-all? Methinks that maybe the reach and power behind the meat industry is causing this somehow. For me, I’m sticking with plant-based eating, over and out!
